Joan Carrick, Principal of Equine Specialist Consulting, stands at the forefront of pregnancy care in the Southern Hemisphere.

 

With a distinguished career spanning over four decades, Joan's expertise stems from her groundbreaking research and extensive experience.

 

Graduating from the University of Queensland's Veterinary School in 1981, she later earned a postgraduate honors degree in Equine Medicine and pursued advanced studies in North America, completing a residency in Large Animal Medicine and obtaining a Master of Veterinary Science.

 

Joan's dedication led her to receive a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, followed by a fellowship in critical care at the University of Tennessee Medical School, and qualified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

 

Her expertise encompasses a wide range of areas, from perinatal foal pathology to clinical internal medicine in large animals. Having lectured internationally on inflammation, shock, and omega-3 fatty acids, Joan brings unparalleled knowledge to her role as a specialist consultant, focusing on managing high-risk pregnant mares.

 

Her approach involves meticulous investigation and personalized care, ensuring the birth of healthy foals and cementing her reputation as a leader in equine pregnancy care.
